Nail Art: Water Marbling

Water marbling is a really fun, interesting design. It looks really unique, effective and interesting, and it is also really fun to do!

 

Here are the things I used/What you will need:

Base and Top Coat: Rimmel 5 in 1 Base and Top Coat

White: Barry M- Matte White

Light Pink:Revlon-Pink Petal (discontinued? No links available)

Dark Pink:Revlon-Fuschia Fever

Barry M-Nail Polish Corrector pen

Some toothpicks

A cup of room temperature water

Cellotape (I pre cut mine, to try and avoid it peeling off the white polish, to do this 20 pieces, each about 2 inches long)

Firstly, apply a base coat, to protect the nail and create a smooth surface.

Next, apply 1 coat of white polish (there isn't a need to make it opaque because polish will be going over it, but this helps to brighten the colours. 

After this, apply the strips of tape. Each finger will need 2 pieces (sorry I forgot to photograph this step! But I will try to describe it). On each finger, one piece of tape needs to go around the bottom of the nail, and the other needs to go behind the nail, and around the sides.
 

Now we are going to do the water marbling. I would recommend using room temperature water for this, as it is most effective at spreading the polish. I also recommend using fairly liquidy polishes, so they drop easily onto the water. 

You can use a variety of colours, you could do a rainbow! But today I am using 2 colours. 

Take your 1st colour, and hold the brush over the water, so that it dropd onto the water, it should spread out over the water to create a thin film (if it only creates a circle, don't worry!) After this, using the same colour, and add another drop, to make an opaque circle (if yours only made a circle that didn't completely spread out, you may not need to add another drop).

 

Then, take your next colour, and add another drop inside the circle. Keep doing this with your colours. For me, since I am only using 2 colours, I obviously altered them, but depending on your colours, decide an order. If your colours are very sheer, you may need to add more than one drop. After a number of drops, you should have something that looks something similarish to a dart board. 

 

When you have finished doing the drops of polish, take your toothpick. Quickly, before the polish dries, lightly drag the toothpick over the polish to  create a swirly design. This is where you can be creative, do any design you want! I did a swirly design, but one clever design is where you drag the tooth pick from the outside inwards, from lots of different points, and it creates a flower design! This could create a really cool petal effect on your nail. You need to create your design quite quickly, because if it dries, then the polish will just stick to the toothpick, and mess the design up..

 

Once you have created your design, dip your nail into the polish, and leave it underwater for a few seconds. Blow on the water to make sure the polish is dry. Then, use a toothpick to clean up excess polish around the finger.

Then, you can remove your finger on the water, and you should have something that looks like this:

Wait for it to dry a little bit, and then remove the tape. Personally, I removed the tape after I had done all my nails, to avoid excess hassle.

It is most likely that you will still have polish on your skin, so this needs removing! I used the Barry M polish remover pen (I really recommend these pens, they are a lifesaver! This is a cheap version, but I am aware that brands such as OPI also do a remover pen) to remove the polish around the nails. If you don't have this, use polish remover and a cotton bud (aka a "q-tip").

Add a top coat and you are done!

 

I love this design, it is really creative, interesting and unique.

Nail Art: Floral Doodles

Hi everyone, today I am going to be doing a nail art tutorial. This is a really cute floral doodle design that is great for spring and summer. Because it is floral doodles, it is great because it means they don't have to be perfect, and its ok if they are messy! This is actually a recreation of a video by Cutepolish (this channel is AMAZING) so check that out here:

 

So here is my spin on it!

 

Firstly you will need nail polishes, here are all of the ones I used:

 

Base and Top Coat: Rimmel Lycra Pro 5in1 Base and Top Coat

Pink: Revlon-Temptress(162)

Blue: Rimmel 60 seconds-Too Cool to Tango (842)

Yellow: The yellow colour out of the Nails Supreme nail art set

Black: The black colour out of the Nails Supreme nail art set

A toothpick

 

Firstly, apply a base coat to all nails. This is to protect your nails and make the nail surface smooth.

 

 

Next apply your base colours. On my index, middle and pinky finger I applied the 3 flower colours, one on each nail (yellow on the index finger, pink on the middle finger, and blue on the pinky). Make sure the colours are opaque. The thumb and ring finger are going to be the accent nails. So apply 2 coats the white nail polish (or as many needed for an opaque colour).

 

*Ew bad picture alert!* Once the white is completely dry, we are going to start to make the flowers. In the video, cutepolish used a sponge to dab the 3 colours on, however I think you can just use the brush to do a blob (it ends up with a very similar effect, cutepolish's has blended edges though, however this won't really matter in the outcome).

 

Once that is dry, we are going to start making it into a flower. Take your black polish and a tooth pick, and closest to the "centre of the flower", or probably the edge of your nail, paint a small semi circle (or a circle, but since it is at the edge, half of it will be cut off), this represents the centre of the flower.

 

*Ew another bad picture alert!* It looks like I have black nail polish all over my finger, but I don't, that's the end of the toothpick covered in black polish. Anyway, then we are going to do an outline on the petals, obviously using the colour "blob" for guidance. I have done 3 petals for each one. This is actually quite a bad example because this was a small nail, painted by my non-dominant hand!

 

Anyway, after you have finished painting your designs and they are all dry, apply a top coat to all nails to protect your design and add a shine!

 

 

And then you are done!

 

So here is my finished design, I think it is really bright, cute and girly, and great for summer! Cutepolish actually added a couple of black leaf outlines on the white, in-between the flowers. I didn't do this because there wasn't much space to paint them, and also, I know its okay if there are e messyish (because they are doodles), however the flowers were a bit messier than I would have liked, and I didn't think the leaves would help. Despite that, I still love this design, and I hope you all do it too!

OOTD: Floral Fancy

Today its an outfit of the day. I think this outfit is really girly and clearly very floral! I think it is a great summer outfit, that will really brighten up your day! It is a perfect comfy, yet stylish outfit that is great for all day activities. I think if you glammed it up with some sparkly accessories and shoes, it could also be a nice evening outfit too! On with the photos!

 

 
This outfit can look lovely with or without a cardigan, personally I prefer it with the cardigan because I think it adds an extra pop of colour. This peachy-pink cardigan is from Primark. I really like this crop top from Hollister. It is white with ruffles along the bottom, and a lace neckline.

 

 

I LOVE THESE SHORTS. They are the focus of the outfit. They are high waisted, with a floral design on them. I picked these up from Primark.

 

They have a really pretty floral design on them, and I love  the pink, purple and yellow pastel colours. It is really pretty and girly. On the high waist, there is some really cute silver button detailing.



 

 

 

For accessories, I wore some pastel pink heart shaped stud earrings, which my nan gave me from her old jewellery stand. Also, I wore this really pretty gold necklace. It is a key with a heart shaped top, with the same pastel pink inside as other parts of my outfit. I really like this necklace, it goes with everything. I got this in the June sale at Republic.

These white gladiator style sandals with flower detailing are from Hush Puppy. I've had them for a couple of years now and they have lasted really well! And they are SO COMFY, I can easily walk in them all day. They are great for day wear, but they are really pretty and sweet, so lovely for an evening too.

So, this is one of my favourite outfits at the moment, it is really flowery and pretty and girly, and just very ME!
